Branch Removal

Branch elimination by a local or commercial service has become the job of choice for many homeowners because it is less costly than hiring a tree service company. As more people are concerned with saving money, they are turning to doing their own branch removal. It's not always an easy task, but if you have the right tools, and some determination, it can be done without any major expenses. By following these simple steps, anyone can do it themselves.

First, you will need a large cutting board, some strong nails or staples, and some level ground. You will also need a stump that is big enough to hold the branch on its end. The next thing you want to do is to figure out which part of the tree branch is thicker and needs the more cutting. The best way to cut a branch is to make a sharp, clean cut perpendicular to the branch it is cutting. Always aim at the heart of the branch.

Once you have your plan, you will need to cut along your planned line until you reach the diameter branch or pole that you have chosen. Make sure that all of the cut lines are going in the same direction as to avoid any bleeding. If there are bleeding branches, you should take caution and stop immediately so that the bleeding does not spread to other parts of the wood. This could potentially cause major damage to the other pieces of the wood.

When cutting out a larger diameter branch, you will need a staining compound to help the piece stand out more. For smaller branches you can just use the nail or staple to stick them into the ground. It is a good idea to put a stake in the ground behind the tree to keep from walking into the hole when removing the branch. Make sure that the branch is completely covered with the stain before digging down into the ground. You may need to back dig about six inches into the ground in order to clear all of the roots. Once you have removed the tree branch, you will be left with empty ground that you can clear.

When cutting into a private property line, you should always consider the broken limbs and try to determine if they can be salvaged. If the branch cannot be salvaged or you are in doubt, you should consider cutting it down to the ground. This is especially true when it comes to cutting down large, broken limbs on a tree.

If you are unsure about tree services in your area, you should contact an arborist in advance. An arborist has the training and experience to determine if a tree is salvageable and will guide you through the process of getting the tree removed. You should contact an arborist soon if you plan to get a stump cleared or if you need help removing a tree from your yard or property.
